Assignment 3: Animoto

https://animoto.com/play/buV9kk9NxgKawVUZugMfww

Here I have my final assignment for EXSM3898! The direction I went here is to take my favourite Augmented Reality game and showcase what I love about the game. The player is able to walk around their community and catch pokemon. An interactive game that lets the player discover new surroundings and meet new people. When I hear of pokemon, I think interacting with friends, having a great time, and collecting pokemon. This assignment gave me the opportunity to showcase what I love most about Pokemon Incorporated, growing up I loved playing the card game and travelling to visit friends. Now playing a localized game on my phone, I’m able to play on my own in my daily life while interacting with friends, going on adventures with them and having fun.

Assignment C: 5 Tips on writing a good Character Description

Please Enjoy the video version of an article we read in class; “how do you write a good Character description? 5 techniques”. The reason I wanted to focus on this article is because the Protagnist is the most important element when telling a story, and in order to reach your audience, you need to craft your character so that it speaks to them.

I learned a-lot of great tips from this article and wanted to share them with you :) In closing, the story makes the business side stronger, I encourage everyone to spend time and effort when developing their brand’s “character/persona

Rock Jungle Video Review - Assignment C

In collaboration with my job, I created an informative advertisement for my home company, Rock Jungle Fitness.
Watch it down below!

Digital/Multimedia Storytelling

  1. How did you approach finding the different elements that you included in your Scoop It post? What keywords, hashtags, or other methods did you use to narrow or expand your search?

Unfortunately, Scoop It was not an option for me working on this assignment. I substituted for Pinterest instead, which has a slightly different way of collecting media for a board. I used keywords such as Digital, Multimedia, Storytelling, Online and Infographic to narrow down my search results for articles. I also included some videos that I searched separately for on Youtube, and added to my board. My favorite pin from the board was a Youtube video of Cannon Ambassador, Ilvy Njiokiktjien, who has traveled around the world as a photographer and creator. In her video, she talks about the impact that Digital Storytelling has on viewers and how it is different from still image photography.

  1. Why did you decide to include the elements you did? What were the criteria you used in order to decide an element was worth including?

I wanted to start by looking for resources that explained and talked about what Digital Storytelling is for viewers who may not be familiar with the concept. I included some infographics about tips on general storytelling writing that can be used on any platform to up your game. I also made sure to include some articles that share with viewers lots of platforms and tools they can use to create Digital Stories.
Unfortunately, you are not able to include media like audio and gifs in Pinterest.

  1. Do you think your post gives a “full picture” of your issue? Why or why not?

Not to the full extent that I wanted to, but I would have had much better luck using the Scoop It site.
Unfortunately, Pinterest is great for a certain kind of content, such as arts and crafts, beauty, DIY, etc, but not super great for finding things like articles and information about a scholarly topic. I had a very limited range of pins to create my board, so I did my best with what I had!

  1. Do you think you could use your Scoop It post as a starting point for writing a longer academic essay? If so, how? If not, why not?

I definitely think that a board like this could be used as a research point for starting something like an essay or research project. There is so much information that can be used on the internet, it can be almost overwhelming to find what you're looking for. A Pinterest board, or Scoop it board, is super helpful for narrowing all that content down into a single place for viewing, making content collection so much easier.

Assignment C: Animoto Review Video by Katryna Patterson Jones

I actually had a little bit of trouble deciding what topic to choose! I wanted to work with something that would have a variety of photos to select from so I opted to feature some brief positive points on rabbits as pets! I have 4 rabbits of my own and volunteer with a local rescue that specializes in small animals, so this seemed liked a great fit.

I had a lot of fun working with Animoto and can see a wide variety of applications for a tool such as this in rescue as well as many other forums. It took me a little bit to get the hang of selecting the number of frames, but once I got going I fell right into step with it. The other challenge I stumbled across was that I created this movie on my phone using the app and when I logged into my account on my laptop to retrieve the embed code, I could'nt find my video online. So I did end up sending it from my phone to myself via email. I wish that I was able to access the embed code from my phone, I looked through the options very thoroughly and found it odd that it was missing. Im not sure if there was some sort of disconnect perhaps though. Overall a really fascinating application though and I look forward to playing with it a little more!

Assignment C: Animoto Review Video by Chara Goodings

If only I could go back in time, I would have done my research before I created my current GoFundMe campaign for the Your Sisters Foundation. How naive I was to believe the Field of Dreams cliche, "If you build it, they will come". I didn't do my audience research, nor did I succeed in connecting readers to the girls. My audience needs to fall in love with the girls, needs to be connected so that any victory is a mutual victory.

Using all the digital storytelling tools I now have at my disposal will significantly increase the success of my GoFundMe 2.0 campaign. If you don't believe me check out my current campaign.😖  Give girls & women a better life in Tanzania

I'm excited to utilize Animoto and perhaps some AR in my next campaign, when I figure out how to make something that doesn't look like my cat made it. 😸
